MHA (Ministry of Home Affairs) has launched a Twitter account @CyberDost to spread awareness about cyber-safety and normal precautions to be taken. It is aimed at enhancing people’s basic knowledge about cyber-crimes and precautions to be taken for prevention. General public and government employees will be immensely benefited if they follow the Twitter account @CyberDost.
Government of India is committed to create a system of safety to prevent and control cyber-crimes. It said capacity building and public awareness are critical components for obviating impact of cyber-crimes and creating a suitable climate for trust-based transactions.
The information and communication technology is being used in all walks of public life including banking, transport, airlines, railways, power and other sectors. With enhanced use of technology for day to day activities, possibility of cyber-crimes is also increasing. “The handle is also aimed at mitigating possibility of commotion in normal business activities or losses due to cybercrime and misuse of cyberspace for promoting vulgarity,” it said, adding with a whopping increase in use of technology, some people were becoming victims of various cybercrimes such as cyber bullying and extortion.
